Trauma, grief, and crisis are heavy enough to carry without the added layer of managing intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and the exhausting search for care. Protecting your headspace should be immediate and seamless.
Bright & Brave is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to removing those barriers. We build free, evidence-based cognitive tools designed to disrupt trauma memory consolidation in real time—giving you a dependable, science-backed circuit-breaker when you need it most.
The Golden 6 Hours
Our primary focus is intervention during the critical 6-hour post-trauma window. By introducing high-load, logic-based visuospatial tasks right away, our digital tools disrupt the brain’s intrusive memory formation, preventing sensory trauma from taking root without altering your conscious memory of the event.
Built for Immediate Crisis & Ongoing Care
In the wake of a traumatic event, victims and loved ones are rarely handed clear, actionable resources right away. Bright & Brave bridges that gap by offering instant, free access to vetted professional support networks alongside our cognitive tools. Whether used on the scene to disrupt initial memory consolidation or brought out during ongoing care when intrusive memories surface later on, our toolkit provides immediate grounding—with no fees, logins, or data tracking required.
Our Grounding Belief
Following the sudden loss of Jess' Dad in 1991, our founder, Jess, watched a responding officer sit at the kitchen table and complete a simple puzzle with her young brother. While Jess was overwhelmed by emotion, that quiet, visual focus helped steady her brother’s focus during a moment of deep distress. That memory inspired Jess and Blake Golden to explore the power of visuospatial focus, combining intuitive design and accessible technology to create supportive digital wellness tools for moments when mental space feels overwhelming.
Our Mission

Jess Golden
Bringing the "Puzzle Effect" into the digital age. Jess’s lived experience drives the mission to ensure no survivor is left without immediate cognitive support in the critical hours following an event or a roadmap to what other support is needed.

Blake Golden
A veteran IT professional and gamer, Blake leads the technical architecture of Bright and Brave. He ensures evidence-based cognitive exercises are accessible, performant, and private in high-stress environments.
